The Great 'Escape'? (New

We haven't smelled anything
like this since we were last at the Fulton Fish Market. According to sources,
Goldie Hawn's teenage daughter Kate Hudson was definitely slated to star
in Escape From L.A., which, coincidentally, stars and is being produced
by Goldie's longtime love, Kurt Russell. But before production even began,
Hudson made an escape from the film, say sources. We were also told Hudson was
replaced by My So-Called Life star A.J. Langer. A spokeswoman for
Paramount insists Hawn's daughter was never attached to the role but basically
confirms everything else we said, including Langer's stepping into the part.
Without getting specific about why, our sources said Hawn "thought it wasn't the
film for her to make her debut in." They did, however, speculate that it may
have to do with the fact that the character Hudson was set to play does most of
her lines in her underwear.
The film, which is a sequel to director John Carpenter's Escape From New York,
has Russell playing a man responsible for locating a doomsday device. Cliff
Robertson stars as the President and Stacy Keach plays a G-man. Oh, did we
forget to mention that Russell's character is injected with a serum that gives
him only a few hours to live should he not find the apocalyptic apparatus?
